About the Journal

The Journal of the Pakistan Medical Association (JPMA) is a leading, monthly, biomedical journal of Pakistan. It was founded in 1953 as a quarterly, and converted into a monthly in 1957. It has the distinction of being the first Medline indexed journal from Pakistan (1975). JPMA is included in the journal list International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE) since 2009.

JPMA is nationally recognised by the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC), the Higher Education Commission, Pakistan (HEC), and the College of Physicians and Surgeons, Pakistan (CPSP).

Various persons of JPMA’s editorial board have memberships of Committee of Publication Ethics – United Kingdom (COPE-UK), World Association of Medical Editors (WAME), Eastern Mediterranean Association of Medical Editors (EMAME), and Pakistan Association of Medical Editors (PAME).

JPMA has an H Index of 27 (2014) which is the second highest in all the journals of Pakistan (provided by SCImago Journal and Country Rank, SJR) [1]. We have an impact factor of 0.414 (provided by Thomson Reuters/ISI Web of Science) [2].

The JPMA website was started in 2003 and is updated regularly (every month for every issue). All articles from January 1978 available free of cost online.

The JPMA Students’ Corner was started in 1998. Articles written by undergraduate students are welcomed. JPMA encourages students to volunteer at the office and learn along the way. An undergraduate student is selected as a students’ corner editor for a term of one year.
